You can apply for permanent residence after 5 years if you:

- are between 18 and 24 and have spent half of your life in the UK

- are aged under 18 with continuous residence in the UK for at least 7 years
- are between 18 and 24 and have spent half of your life in the UK
- are aged 18 or over, spent less than 20 years in the UK and have serious problems living in the country to which you would like to return
- were born in the UK to a person who has or is applying for leave to remain in the UK on the basis of their private life
The residence permit can be extended for 2 years and 6 months on the basis of private life.
